Beyond Smooth Skin - How Laser Hair Removal Boosts Confidence and Emotional Wellbeing

Want to get rid of unwanted body hair for good?

Laser treatments are a powerful and efficient solution, especially the most advanced systems on the market. But while visiting a laser clinic will leave you with smoother skin, it could improve your confidence and wellbeing at the same time.

In this post, we’ll explain how laser treatments work and reveal four potential benefits that might surprise you.

What is Laser Hair Removal?

Undergoing a hair removal treatment at a laser clinic is the start of a journey to smoother, silkier skin. Here’s how it works:

  • A trained technician uses a handheld laser device to target unwanted hair on one or more areas of the body.
  • The laser device emits light energy: this penetrates the skin and delivers a precise amount of therapeutic heat.
  • The heat is absorbed by the melanin (pigment) in the hair follicles. The heat damages the follicles to inhibit growth and prevent hairs from returning as they would naturally.

Patients usually need around four or five sessions to achieve the best results. Treatments can focus on the following areas:

  • Face
  • Underarms
  • Back
  • Legs
  • Bikini line

Different types of laser systems are available, including the Candela GentleMax Pro. This is an innovative treatment platform with a unique feature — the patented Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD).

What makes this so special? It’s simple. Each time the system emits a laser pulse to target hair follicles, the DCD releases a burst of cryogen to the same area. This cools, soothes, and protects the skin.

As a result, this ensures that GentleMax Pro laser hair removal treatments are more comfortable than alternatives. It’s suitable for all skin types and tones.

How Can Laser Hair Removal Boost Your Confidence and Wellbeing?

Laser treatments can boost confidence and wellbeing in the following four ways:

No More Frustrating and Uncomfortable Razor Bumps

Eliminating razor bumps is one of the most obvious confidence-boosting perks of visiting a laser clinic.

Razor bumps are ingrown hairs caused by conventional hair removal techniques, such as shaving and waxing. Sometimes, short hairs will curve and grow back into your skin. Fresh skin will gradually start to grow over these hairs and create a visible bump.

As anyone who has ever experienced razor bumps will know, this can be a painful and unsightly side effect of removing unwanted body hair. If you have razor bumps in one or more areas, you may feel uncomfortable baring your skin in public.

This can be especially upsetting if it occurs around a vacation, as you might feel too self-conscious to wear beach clothes or other items you picked out especially for your time away.

Fortunately, laser hair removal eliminates the risk of ingrown hairs and razor bumps. As the laser and heat destroys hair follicles, those problematic strands won’t grow back. This will leave your skin free of noticeable bumps.

Find the Freedom to Show Off More Areas of Your Body

Unwanted body hair can have a negative impact on your confidence in certain situations and environments. If you’re visiting a pool with a loved one, you may feel hesitant to strip down to your bathing suit for fear of others seeing a patch of growth in an exposed area (e.g. your back or chest).

Sadly, you might feel uncomfortable visiting a salon regularly to have growth on your back waxed, for example, or asking a loved one to shave that spot you just can’t reach. This can be an ongoing problem, as the hair will keep coming back again and again.

However, laser hair removal is safe for use on multiple areas of the body during the same treatment. The GentleMax Pro system can effectively and efficiently remove hair on the back, chest, underarms, legs, and bikini line.

Once your course of treatments at a laser clinic ends, you can enjoy more freedom to show off your body without unwanted hair holding you back.

Discover More Time and Space in Your Routine for Yourself

Are you tired of making time to shave, wax, or pluck hairs out regularly? It can be a tedious and arduous process.

But when you visit a laser clinic for a series of sessions instead, you won’t need to invest that same time and effort into dealing with unwanted hair growth in the future. Your skin may stay smooth for months or even several years, and you can bank the time you would usually spend on maintaining it.

These minutes and hours saved will all add up — giving you extra room in your routine to focus on more rewarding activities. When you don’t have to spend so long tending to your appearance, you might discover exciting new things about yourself.

Improved Body Image

If you feel self-conscious of hair growth on one or more parts of your body, that can have a negative impact on your view of yourself. You might insist on covering up entirely all year round, even on hot days, for fear of people seeing the hairs that bother you.

Crucially, unwanted growth may not always affect areas that are easily covered (e.g. the face or neck). You might spend a lot of time plucking hairs out each morning, even in secret if you don’t want your spouse or relatives to know.

However, visiting a laser clinic allows you to remove unwanted hair with visible, lasting results. The GentleMax Pro system is safe for use on the face, arms, and other areas. It can also address other cosmetic issues that could affect your body image, such as:

  • Facial and spider veins
  • Rosacea
  • Beard bumps
  • Pigmented lesions
  • Hemangiomas

After a laser treatment, any hairs that eventually grow back will typically be finer, lighter, and less noticeable. As a result, they should be easier to remove by yourself and may make you feel less self-conscious.

Why Winter is the Best Season to Start Your Laser Hair Removal Journey Before Vacation

12/30/2024

Do you have an exciting vacation planned?

Like countless other people, you might consider prepping your look to be a major part of getting ready for a sunny getaway. You want to look and feel at your best by the time you jet off on an adventure, so you can relax and focus on enjoying yourself.

And removing unwanted body hair is a common pre-vacation process, whether on the legs, chest, back, or any other area you’re likely to show off.

Laser hair removal is an effective and reliable way to achieve smoother, hair-free skin. But while you might shave or wax close to the day your vacation starts, it’s best to start laser treatments months in advance — as early as winter.

Why? And how should you prepare for it? In this post, we’ll explain the benefits of starting your laser hair removal journey in winter, share preparation tips, and cover other details you need to know.

What is Laser Hair Removal?

Laser treatments are an effective and reliable way to deal with unwanted hair growth. A technician uses a cutting-edge laser system to deliver a carefully controlled amount of heat to one or more areas of the body. They will configure the system to the best level for your hair growth and goals.

The heat from the laser is absorbed by the hair pigment (melanin), then passes through the hair into the root. This damages the follicle and helps inhibit future hair growth.

Using a laser to remove body hair is more effective than alternatives, and the results last longer. That’s one of the most important points to consider if you’re curious about trying laser-based treatments, especially when you’re tired of shaving, waxing, or plucking hairs repeatedly.

Multiple treatments are required to enjoy the full benefits, though. That’s why it’s referred to as a hair removal “journey” instead of a one-off solution.

Benefits of Laser Hair Removal Treatments in Winter

Here are three reasons to start your laser treatments in winter:

Give Yourself Time for a Full Course of Treatments

The average person needs between three and five treatments, spaced four to six weeks apart. Several sessions are scheduled to make sure hairs are removed properly in line with the hair growth cycle.

There are four phases in the cycle:

  • Anagen — hairs extend from follicles
  • Catagen — hairs detach from follicles
  • Telogen — new hairs form in follicles while other hairs rest in place
  • Exogen — hairs are shed, and new hairs continue growing

Hair across the body is in different stages of the cycle at any one time and catching it at the right time is key for effective removal. Laser hair removal is most effective during the anagen phase, as hairs have the most pigment at this time. Pigment is crucial for absorbing heat from the laser and damaging follicles.

Treating the same areas multiple times allows you to target hairs that were in different growth stages during previous sessions. Starting your hair removal journey in winter ensures that you have plenty of time to undergo the right number of sessions and get silky smooth, vacation-ready skin.

Avoiding Sunlight is Easier

Staying out of direct sunlight is one of the most important steps in preparing for a laser treatment. If your skin is more tanned than usual, your skin will be at higher risk of being damaged (as the laser targets melanin).

Avoiding the sun is harder in summer, especially if you’re the type of person who loves to soak up rays and develop a deep tan. But in winter, you might find it more convenient to cover up and stay indoors without feeling as if you’re missing out on the opportunity to enjoy the weather.

You’re Less Likely to Sweat After Your Treatment

Sweating can have a negative impact on your skin after laser hair removal, as it contains bacteria. Possible outcomes include skin irritation, swelling, and rashes.

However, it’s not always easy to control when or how much you sweat, especially in summer. Hot weather can cause you to perspire even if you’re not doing anything particularly strenuous. But unless you’re pushing yourself, you’re less likely to sweat in lower temperatures.

Starting your course of laser treatments in winter will help you avoid any of the possible issues related to sweating. And that will make your experience smoother and more comfortable overall.

How to Prepare for Your Laser Hair Removal

Here are four steps to keep in mind before your treatments:

  • Limit sun exposure: As we mentioned earlier, spending too much time in the sun before a laser session can leave your skin at higher risk of harm. Try to avoid direct sunlight and other sources of UV rays as best you can. Cover up the areas you want to treat whenever you go outside, and don’t use tanning beds or booths.
  • Avoid plucking or waxing: If you usually pluck or wax hairs, that’s a no-no in preparation for laser hair removal. The roots of the hairs in target areas need to be intact for laser treatments to work.
  • Keep clothing loose and comfortable: On the day of your treatment, avoid clothes that fit tightly or feature coarse materials likely to rub up against the skin. Wear clothing that’s loose and less likely to irritate your skin after your session.
  • Shave the day before your treatment: Aim to shave hair in the target areas within the 24 hours preceding your appointment. This helps the laser target and reach follicles more effectively.

Laser Hair Removal for Sensitive Skin - Is it Safe and Effective?

5/6/2024

Picture

Depending on the technique you use, removing unwanted body hair can be a time-consuming, tedious, painful chore. Shaving your legs multiple times a week. Waxing your underarms. Applying cream to a patch of hair on your back or chest. Over and over again.

If you want to get rid of unwanted hair for longer in a fast, convenient, and effective way, laser hair removal is the solution you’re looking for. But if you have sensitive skin, you may wonder how safe laser hair removal treatment is for you.

The good news is there are options suitable for delicate skin, including the GentleMax Pro system. We’ll take a closer look at that, and answer important questions about laser hair removal for sensitive skin, below.

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

If your sensitive skin makes waxing and shaving uncomfortable or impractical, laser hair removal could be the best option.

Laser hair removal takes a completely different approach to more traditional techniques. Instead of cutting the hairs off at the surface of the skin or pulling them out with hardened wax, laser hair removal systems get right to the root of the issue.

A handheld device emits light energy at the target area (e.g. the back). The pigment in the hair (melanin) absorbs this energy, which is converted into heat. That heat damages the hair follicles, without affecting the surrounding skin, and inhibits future growth.

There are different types of laser hair removal systems available, and some may function differently from others. If you’re concerned about trying laser hair removal because your skin is particularly sensitive, it’s crucial that you choose a system that caters to different skin types. And the GentleMax Pro is a fantastic example.

What is the GentleMax Pro Laser Hair Removal System?

The cutting-edge GentleMax Pro system is suitable for all skin types and is designed to achieve lasting results while minimizing discomfort. It can remove hair from any pigment of skin, as it includes two wavelengths: 755 nm and 1064 nm. Technicians can easily select the right wavelength to suit the skin type treated.

Only the follicles are damaged during the treatment, and the rest of the skin remains unharmed. Trained technicians use the GentleMax Pro’s small handpiece to deliver the laser energy to skin with precision. The system is safe enough to treat different areas of the body.

After the treatment, the majority of the treated hairs will wipe away easily. The rest of the hair will fall out gradually across the following week or two.

The GentleMax Pro system can also be used to treat a wide range of skin conditions, such as:

  • Leg veins
  • Facial redness
  • Pigmented lesions
  • Beard bumps (PFB)
  • Rosacea
  • Facial veins
  • Spider veins
  • Hemangiomas

One of the most distinctive aspects of the GentleMax Pro system, though, is its patented Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD).

Why is the GentleMax Pro Laser Hair Removal System Safe for Sensitive Skin?

The GentleMax Pro system was built to provide a safe, comfortable treatment for all skin types, and the DCD plays a key part in that.

The device prepares the targeted areas of skin for treatment by releasing a burst of cooling spray milliseconds before each laser pulse. That will help soothe the skin and keep you comfortable during the entire process. Compared to other laser hair removal systems, GentleMax Pro is gentler and easier on skin.

You can discuss the treatment, your goals, and your concerns about your sensitive skin with a trained technician during a personalized consultation. This is vital for understanding your skin type, the texture of your hair, and other essential details.

Are There Any Side Effects of Laser Hair Removal?

Side effects are common with all types of treatment, and laser hair removal is no different. The GentleMax Pro makes for a smoother, safer, simpler procedure than other systems, but there are still a few potential side effects to consider.

The skin may turn slightly red immediately after the treatment. This usually lasts between a few minutes and several hours but will fade. Swelling, bruising, and blistering may also occur.

Any dark spots in treated areas will become darker, though they will gradually grow lighter.

We’ll discuss the possible side effects and how to handle them during your consultation.

How Should I Care for My Sensitive Skin After My Laser Hair Removal Treatment?

It’s important that you take certain steps after your laser hair removal treatment, not only to achieve the best results, but to care for your skin too.

Your skin will be more vulnerable to UV damage after treatment. Try to avoid direct sunlight, and if you need to go outside, wear sunblock of SPF30 or higher.

You should also avoid rinsing or scrubbing treated areas with any abrasive products for a few days following treatment.

How Long Do Laser Hair Removal Treatments Take?

The duration of your laser hair removal treatment will depend on the size of the target area and the level of hair growth. Itcould last 10 minutes or so if treating a small area, or up to one hour for a bigger part of the body with more dense hair growth.

We’ll be able to give you a clear idea of the length of your treatment after your consultation.

How Many Sessions with the GentleMax Pro System Will I Need?

The nature of hair growth means that multiple laser hair removal sessions are required to achieve noticeable results.

Hair grows in four stages, but follicles across the body are often in different stages at any one time. To treat the follicles and hairs in the growth stage effectively, you’ll need several treatments scheduled six to weight weeks apart.

Is Laser Hair Removal Permanent? Unveiling the Truth Behind the Beam

3/3/2024

laser hair removal model on the beach

Are you looking for a way to get rid of unwanted body hair permanently?

If so, you may have heard that laser hair removal eliminates hair in treated areas forever. But is that true? Can you really remove hair permanently with a laser treatment?

In this post, we’ll explore whether laser hair removal creates permanent results, the potential risks involved, the treatment options available, and more.

What is Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal is a popular method of removing hair from various areas of the body, including the face, chest, and back. Unlike more traditional techniques (e.g. waxing and shaving), laser hair removal can only be performed safely by a trained technician in a clinic or spa.

If you’re used to buying waxing kits to remove hair from your legs at home, for example, you know that waxing your legs smooth can be long, laborious, and uncomfortable. Shaving is typically less painful and more straightforward, but it can still take a while and the results don’t last as long. You might need to shave daily or every other day to maintain a silky-smooth effect.

But with laser hair removal, you don’t need to clutch a razor or apply wax to your own skin: you can leave the hard work to a skilled technician instead.

They will use a handheld device to emit a laser that penetrates the skin and reaches deep into the hair follicle. The heat from the laser damages the targeted follicles to reduce further hair growth, while the skin surrounding the follicles stay safe.

Most of the hairs can be wiped away once the procedure is finished. The rest should fall out within a week or two.

Does Laser Hair Removal Achieve Permanent Results?

Laser hair removal is often referred to as an effective way to get rid of unwanted hair permanently. That’s an exciting prospect if you struggle with visible hair growth on your face, back, chest, or anywhere else.

However, even the best laser hair removal technology can’t guarantee that it will remove unwanted hair permanently. But it can cultivate a permanent reduction in hair growth, which will leave the treated skin looking and feeling smoother for longer than traditional methods are capable of.

That can be a welcome relief after years of shaving, plucking, and waxing hair that keeps coming back.

However, while hair is highly likely to regrow eventually, that could take years. Even when hair does start to come back in treated areas, it’s typically lighter and finer. That makes it less visible than before.

You will need between six and eight treatments to achieve optimal hair growth reduction. These will be spaced six weeks apart.

What Laser Hair Removal Technology Does Astra Medicare Use?

Astra Medicare has invested in the cutting-edge GentleMax Pro system created by Candela, one of the foremost names in laser aesthetics. The GentleMax Pro is a popular solution for removing unwanted body hair in numerous countries, and it can create incredible results.

The GentleMax Pro system is safe and effective for all skin pigments, unlike some other laser hair removal technologies. It features two wavelengths:

  • 755 nm for skin types I, II, and III (according to the Fitzpatrick scale)
  • 1064 nm for skin types IV, V, and VI

Your skin type and hair-removal goals will be discussed in detail during your pre-treatment consultation. That’s a major part of the process, and ensures that you understand what the treatment will involve.

One of the GentleMax Pro’s most important features is the patented Dynamic Cooling DeviceTM. This works alongside the laser to soothe skin and minimize physical discomfort during the treatment.

If you’re apprehensive about trying laser hair removal for the first time, primarily because of the discomfort it might cause, the GentleMax Pro should set your mind at ease. The laser and Dynamic Cooling Device work harmoniously to help you stay comfortable from start to finish.

Additionally, the Astra Medicare team has treated a high number of clients with the GentleMax Pro system. We’ll talk you through the process, answer your questions, and address any concerns you may have before your treatment. That should make the process a lot easier for you.

The GentleMax Pro system can also be used to treat:

  • Rosacea
  • Hemangiomas
  • Spider veins
  • Leg veins
  • Redness on face
  • Beard bumps (PFB)
  • Pigmented lesions

The process can last from just a few minutes to around one hour, depending on the number of areas treated and their size.

Are There Any Risks with Laser Hair Removal?

As with any other type of cosmetic treatment, laser hair removal carries certain risks. None of these are particularly serious, but you need to know about them to make an informed decision about laser hair removal.

Temporary risks include:

  • Redness
  • Tenderness or discomfort
  • Bruising
  • Swelling
  • Dark spots may go darker in color before turning lighter

You can discuss the potential risks and side effects in more detail during your consultation.

What Laser Hair Removal Treatments are Available?

You can choose from the following laser hair removal packages at Astra Medicare:

The Unexpected Benefits of Choosing Laser Hair Removal

12/31/2023

laser hair removal model on the beach

Laser hair removal is a popular treatment for targeting unwanted body hair. It can be used in different areas as needed, such as the bikini line, underarms, back, legs, and chin.

A handheld device emits a steady laser pulse, which delivers carefully controlled heat directly into the skin. This is absorbed by the pigment in targeted hairs, and the heat destroys the hair follicles to prohibit further growth.

Using a laser hair removal system to get rid of unwanted hair is a completely different process from more traditional methods, such as plucking, shaving, and waxing.

There are various systems available, and Astra Medicare uses the Candela GentleMax Pro. This innovative device utilizes cutting-edge technology to remove hair in a fast, convenient way.

But laser hair removal offers more benefits than remarkably smooth skin, and some may surprise you. In this post, we’ll look at seven unexpected benefits to consider, but first, let’s explore how the treatment works.

How does the GentleMax Pro laser hair removal system work?

The GentleMax Pro laser hair removal system has two wavelength options to treat patients with different skin types: 755 nm and 1064 nm. It can also be used for more varied applications, such as treating rosacea, beard bumps, facial veins, spider veins, pigmented lesions, and more.

The system delivers a gentle energy pulse and therapeutic heat deep into the root of a hair follicle to destroy it without damaging the surrounding skin. One of the most innovative aspects of the GentleMax Pro laser system is the Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD). This releases soothing bursts of liquid cryogen over treated skin to make the treatment comfortable.

The GentleMax Pro system is fast, effective, and achieves permanent hair-growth reduction over a series of treatments. If you’re frustrated by visible hair on your underarms, back, or other areas, the GentleMax Pro laser hair removal system is a reliable option.

Once the GentleMax Pro system removes unwanted hair in treatment areas, your skin will look and feel smooth.

What are the unexpected benefits of laser hair removal?

Using a laser system to remove unwanted body hair brings a number of benefits that you might find surprising.

Save time on your beauty routine

Shaving your underarms, plucking hairs with tweezers, or visiting a salon to have your bikini line waxed can all take more time out of your day than you would like. That can be incredibly frustrating when you have a busy schedule, as there are other things you could be doing with the time you spend removing unwanted hair.

Fortunately, laser hair removal offers a more convenient and effective solution, and it will take up less time than shaving your underarms and legs every other day.

Help prevent ingrown hairs

Ingrown hairs are a common side effect of shaving, waxing, and tweezing. A hair that has been removed begins to grow again but curves back into the skin rather than outwards.

Ingrown hairs can manifest as small, potentially painful bumps. They can be effectively treated, but if you’ve experienced ingrown hairs before, you know it’s best to try to prevent them altogether.

An unexpected benefit of laser hair removal is that it can stop ingrown hairs from developing on the skin, unlike more traditional methods. That’s because the laser penetrates deeply into the root of targeted hairs and destroys the follicles.

Reduce body odor

Body odor issues can be difficult to deal with. They may cause problems with self-confidence and affect how you interact with others.

However, one of the most surprising benefits of laser hair removal is that it may help improve body odor.

Why? It’s simple: reducing hair growth in the underarms, and in other areas prone to odors, helps to release sweat that may be trapped. It also means that there should be fewer hairs for sweat to cling to in the future.

Treatment can be tailored to you

If you have spent years shaving unwanted body hair or having your bikini line waxed, you know that there are various razors and waxing products on the market. That offers you some flexibility, but laser hair removal treatments with the GentleMax Pro system go far beyond that.

Your treatment can be tailored to suit your unique needs, as the system allows the operator to adjust the process and deliver a customized procedure. You will have a chance to discuss your unwanted body hair, your goals, and all other important details during your consultation with your treatment provider. They will use this insight to tailor the laser hair removal procedure to your requirements.

Avoid irritating razor burn

Razor burn is a common side effect of shaving, and can leave skin irritated and uncomfortable. It can affect any area that has been shaved, including the underarms, legs, and bikini line. The main causes are shaving too fast, using a blade that is too dull, and shaving without cream or gel to lubricate the skin.

However, while laser hair removal can cause some side effects, the GentleMax Pro system is designed to be kinder to skin and helps soothe it with the Dynamic Cooling Device.

Results last longer than you might expect

The results of laser hair removal last considerably more time than shaving, plucking, and waxing.

The GentleMax Pro laser hair removal system can achieve a 29% reduction in hair growth after the first session and up to a 95% reduction after 4 to 5 sessions. Treatments will be scheduled between four and six weeks apart.

You may enjoy the results for years before you need further treatments, though the duration of results can vary from one person to another.

No waste to worry about

Another unexpected benefit of laser hair removal is that you’ll generate less waste than if you used disposable razors or waxing kits.

Laser Hair Removal: Is It Safe for Dark Skin?

laser hair removal safety for dark skin

Laser Hair Removal: Is It Safe for Dark Skin?

Laser hair removal offers a quick, simple, long-lasting way to achieve smoother skin. It’s ideal if you want to shave time off your grooming routine, and means you’ll finally get to ditch those expensive razors, creams, and waxing strips you’ve relied on for years.

But traditionally, laser hair removal has been problematic for people with darker skin tones. They may have struggled to find a clinic that catered to their skin type, and any that did likely felt unsatisfied with the results.

Fortunately, technological improvements mean the latest generation of laser hair removal treatments are suitable for all skin types. But you’re bound to have questions if you’ve had a negative experience with laser-based solutions in the past or you’re nervous about trying one for the first time.

We’ll answer the biggest, most important questions about laser hair removal for dark skin below. Read on for all the details you need on how this treatment works, what results it can achieve, and how to get started.

What Problems Have People with Dark Skin Experienced with Traditional Laser Hair Removal Procedures?

Older laser hair removal devices failed to remove hair from dark skin effectively because they’re designed to target the melanin (pigment) in hair shafts. The targeted hairs absorb the laser’s energy and convert it into heat. This passes into the follicle at the base of the shafts and disrupts the growth process.

Typically, these lasers needed a clear contrast between the color of the skin and the hair to work effectively. So, while patients with dark hair on white skin could expect good results, those with dark hair on dark skin would likely be disappointed. In some cases, the laser might have even caused complications — such as mild burns or pigmentation issues.

But the most innovative brands specializing in laser hair removal technology spent years working on this problem, including Candela, which created the GentleMax Pro Laser.

What is the GentleMax Pro Laser?

Candela’s GentleMax Pro Laser is a cutting-edge device designed to effectively remove hair and treat various skin conditions (such as spider veins, beard bumps, rosacea, and more). It uses 755 and 1064 nanometer (nm) wavelength lasers to treat different skin types, and penetrates deep into hair roots to damage follicles without harming the surrounding tissue.

The 755 nm laser is optimal for skin types I, II, and III on the Fitzpatrick scale (which measures skin pigment). And the 1064 nm laser is best for types IV, V, and VI. Melanin doesn’t absorb this laser wavelength as easily as it does others, which makes it safer and more effective for people with dark skin. Essentially, the laser will target the hair while the tissue remains unaffected.

How is GentleMax Pro Laser Hair Removal Treatment Performed?

A trained technician will handle the GentleMax Pro Laser throughout your treatment. They will move the high-precision handheld device to carefully guide the laser over the target areas of skin. Melanin in the hairs will absorb the light energy, and follicles will become damaged enough to prevent future hair growth.

The energy emitted from the handheld device penetrates the skin only: it will NEVER reach deep enough to harm crucial tissue or organs.

And the GentleMax Pro Laser offers a more comfortable experience than previous solutions. Your practitioner will apply a cooling spray to skin in the treatment areas milliseconds before they trigger the laser pulse. Just lie back, relax, and look forward to having smoother skin without the usual hassle of shaving or waxing.

Can Laser Hair Removal Safely Treat Ingrown Hairs on Dark Skin?

Yes, the GentleMax Pro Laser can reduce development of ingrown hairs. That should come as a welcome relief if you often struggle with ingrown hairs after shaving or waxing your legs, armpits, or other areas prone to hair growth.

According to the Canadian Dermatology Association, people with afro-textured hair are more likely to develop ingrown hairs than people with straighter hair, as tight curls become ingrown more easily. However, switching to laser hair removal with the GentleMax Pro should decrease your risk of developing painful ingrown hairs over time.

If you often suffer from ingrown hairs, tell your practitioner before they begin your treatment. They’ll offer further advice on how to look after affected skin and reduce the likelihood of experiencing them again.

What Do You Need to Know About Preparing for Your Laser Hair Removal Treatment?

You should take the following steps to prepare for your procedure:

  • Avoid direct sunlight and UV rays for at least two weeks prior to your laser hair removal.
  • Allow your hair to grow for four to six weeks before and after your treatment. Don’t try to wax or pluck hairs out during this time.
  • Clean treatment areas before your procedure.
  • Wear loose clothing on the day of treatment to minimize discomfort after your procedure.

We may offer further recommendations on preparing for your laser hair removal when you schedule your appointment. If you have any questions or concerns about them, feel free to ask our friendly team. We’ll be happy to help.

What Should You Do After Your Laser Hair Removal Procedure?

Take the following precautions within the first 24 hours of your treatment:

  • Stay out of the sunlight, as your skin will be more sensitive and at higher risk of burning.
  • Avoid showering or bathing in hot water — use lukewarm water instead.
  • Don’t use saunas.
  • Avoid applying products containing strong chemicals to treated skin.

Your practitioner will offer further information on how to care for treated areas after your treatment.

HERE’S HOW A LASER CAN HELP WITH INGROWN HAIRS

Here’s How a Laser can Help with Ingrown Hairs

Ingrown hairs are a common side effect of shaving and waxing, though they can develop on ungroomed areas of the body too. They form when hair grows back into the skin and appear as itchy red spots.

If you’ve experienced ingrown hairs, you’ll know how uncomfortable they can be. Fortunately, there are various ways to remove them and reduce the risk of further issues, but some are more effective than others.

One of the most powerful ways to deal with ingrown hairs is laser hair removal, but how does this actually work?

Destroying ingrown hairs with laser hair removal

Laser hair removal has become a common alternative to shaving, plucking, and waxing. It’s a faster, more effective, and more convenient way to achieve silky-smooth skin on one or more areas of the body.

During laser hair removal treatments, a technician will use a cutting-edge handheld device to target the laser at specific areas (legs, bikini line, back, etc.). The heat damages the hair follicles without affecting the surrounding skin.

Hairs become thinner during a course of treatments, and can eventually stop growing altogether.

When performed by a trained technician, laser hair removal is incredibly safe and effective. It can be used on any area of the body except the skin around the eyes.

If an ingrown hair becomes infected, seek treatment as soon as possible. Otherwise, it could become inflamed, cause much more pain than it has already, and even lead to abscesses.

How many laser treatments will I need to remove ingrown hairs?

One laser hair removal treatment is unlikely to be enough to destroy your ingrown hair and stop it coming back.

Patients typically undergo up to eight treatments, though this can vary from one case to another.

If you experience regular discomfort from ingrown hairs and want to try a longer-lasting alternative to traditional treatments, laser hair removal could be the solution you’re looking for.

How to prevent ingrown hairs

One of the most effective ways to deal with ingrown hairs? Be proactive and do what you can to prevent them in the first place!

Here are a few pro tips to try:

  • Exfoliate areas of hair growth to remove dead skin cells from the skin’s outer layer, which reduces the risk of clogged pores and elevates hairs away from the skin
  • Shavehairs in the direction of growth — shaving in the opposite direction cuts hairs at a sharper angle and increases their likelihood of becoming ingrown
  • Alwayswet the skin before shaving, and use a quality shaving gel suited to your skin type
  • Applya wet, cool cloth to the skin after you finish shaving, to reduce possible irritation
  • Experiment with laser hair removal or hair removal cream if you have a history of shaving-related ingrown hairs

So, you can try several techniques to prevent ingrown hairs, but if you’re looking for a long-lasting, cutting-edge solution, laser hair removal is ideal.

LASER HAIR REMOVAL FOR DARK SKIN

Laser Hair Removal for Dark Skin: Everything You Need to Know

Laser hair removal is a fantastic way to achieve silky-smooth skin, and it’s become a common alternative to shaving, waxing, or plucking.

Sadly, though, it hasn’t always been effective for everyone.

The nature of laser hair removal technology used to heighten the risk of burning, discoloration, and scarring in people with dark skin. But the cutting-edge devices available to technicians today means laser hair removal is safer for everyone than ever before.

How does it work?

Read on to discover everything you need to know about laser hair removal for dark skin.

Making laser hair removal safe for all skin colors

Traditionally, devices used in laser hair removal treatments were highly sensitive to both melanin and the patient’s skin color. People with pale skin and dark hair saw the best results, as the strong contrast makes it easier for the technology to separate the target hair from the skin surrounding it.

Technicians may have struggled to provide safe, effective laser hair removal for patients with dark skin and hair (as well as for those with pale skin and pale hair). For a long time, this denied people with dark skin the chance to enjoy a faster, longer-lasting hair-removal solution.

But now, patients of all skin colors can take advantage of the latest laser hair removal technologies, thanks to the Nd: YAG laser.

How Candela’s GentleMax Pro laser hair removal treatment works on dark skin

Candela’s GentleMax Pro Laser is designed to be safe for darker skin types, as it provides a selection of wavelengths: 1064 nm and 755 nm.

The 755 nm is best for skin types I - III, and the 1064 nm for skin types IV - IV.

The 1064 nm wavelength (AKA the Nd:YAG) is not absorbed by melanin as easily as other wavelengths. This means the laser deposits the energy deeper inside the skin and doesn’t depend on melanin.

And the GentleMax Pro Laser offers technicians a variety of pulse durations, which allows for more effective destruction of targeted follicles. It facilitates deeper penetration and powerful DCD cooling, which helps to protect the skin and make the entire process safer.

How to care for your skin after laser hair removal

It’s vital to take care of your skin properly following your laser hair removal, even after you’ve undergone a few sessions. Here are a few pro tips for the best results:

  • Avoid direct sunlight for at least two weeks before and after your treatment, as the skin will be more sensitive
  • Use a cool compress on the skin to reduce the risk of swelling or redness
  • Give your skin time to heal by avoiding exercise, pools, or hot environments for at least two days

6 Incredible Benefits of Laser Hair Removal

There is a reason new razor subscription services are popping up across the world. Keeping up with hair removal is both a time consuming and expensive endeavor.

If you are still on the fence about ditching your razor for the laser, keep reading. Check out 6 crazy good benefits of laser hair removal you won't want to miss!

1. Cost Effective

While the hair removal treatment will cost some money up front, you need to frame it in terms of how much money you will save in the long run. By starting to use laser hair removal, you won't need to spend all the dollars on razors.

You also will no longer need to purchase shaving cream or wax.

Beyond money, you will also save time that normally would be spend shaving daily or weekly. Less time shaving means more time belting out your favorite catchy pop tune of the week while showering.

2. Not Time Consuming

If you are unsure about the benefits of laser hair removal, you will be happy to know that the treatments themselves are very quick.

Depending on the area you want to be treated, it may take less than ten minutes! While you may need more than one treatment, often after four or five, your unwanted hair will not come back!

3. Effective and Safe

Do you think laser hair removal sounds scary? It's quite the opposite. The process is very safe, as the technology has been used for years. Be sure to do your research and visit a reputable business for treatments.

Laser hair removal is also incredibly effective. The laser can treat an area with a high degree of precision to ensure only the desired area is treated.

4. Works Even on Shaved Hairs

If you have ever relied on waxing, you know how frustrating it can be to be unable to shave in between appointments.

Lucky for you, with laser treatments, you can shave in between appointments if you have some regrowth you want to remove. This should become less of a necessity over time as you get additional treatments.

5. Limit Your Chances of Ingrown Hairs

When shaving in the traditional manner, there is a high risk of ingrown hairs. But if you switch to laser treatments, you are much more likely to avoid these.

Laser hair removal treatments are actually sometimes used to treat stubborn ingrown hairs that have become painful. Thus, if you typically get razor burn or ingrown hairs, laser treatment may be the thing for you!

6. Precise and Long Lasting

As mentioned, laser treatments for hair removals are very precise. They will remove the unwanted hair without damaging the skin, even in sensitive places like the bikini line.

After a few treatments, you will have permanent results. No more shaving for you!

Reap the Benefits of Laser Hair Removal Yourself

5 Things You Need to Know About Laser Hair Removal

Are you tired of shaving your body hair?

Shaving hair is a time-consuming process. Razors, blades, and shave gel can be quite expensive. And worst of all, a careful shave job never stays smooth for more than a couple days and it often leaves your skin irritated, red and bumpy.

Luckily, there's a way to have silky smooth skin without dealing with the hassle of shaving every day.

Laser hair removal is becoming an increasingly popular option for those who want to be done with their unwanted hair once and for all.

The procedure involves targeting a highly-concentrated beam of light into areas of unwanted hair. The laser then destroys the unwanted hair follicles by absorbing their pigment.

Sounds awesome. Now, where do I sign up?

Even though laser hair removal is a noninvasive treatment, it's still a big decision. It's best to know all the details before fully committing. Here are the top 5 things you should know about laser treatment:

It's Permanent...Sort Of

It usually takes at least a few sessions to fully remove the unwanted hair.

However, you need to understand that even if you quit after the first session, your hair will never be the same again. Once the hair's been removed, it's gone for good.

Make sure you are 100% committed before you actually go through with it.

Also be aware that results are not 100% guaranteed. Some follicles are more resistant to treatment and may grow back again. However, they will grow back much finer and lighter.

Certain People Are Better Candidates

It would be nice if everyone was the ideal candidate for hair removal. But unfortunately, it doesn't work that way.

Those with lighter skin and darker hair are the best candidates. However, there are specific lasers that can be used on patients with darker skin.

Unfortunately, those with blonde or white hair do not make good candidates. This is because the laser has trouble deciphering the skin from the actual hair follicles.

Those with rashes, infections, or open wounds should also avoid getting hair removal.

Preparation is Key

6 weeks prior to your treatment you should limit any waxing, plucking or electrolysis.

However, it is okay to continue shaving as normal. This is because the laser targets your hair roots. If you are using another hair removal system, the laser won't be as effective.

You should also avoid the sun as much as possible 6 weeks prior to your treatment. The sun damage can aggravate side effects (redness, swelling, sensitivity) and can also make the laser less effective.

Know What Goes On During

The total time of the procedure will depend on the size of the area being treated.

Typically though, it takes 30 minutes or longer. Your technician will have you lie down and will rub gel on the area to make it easier for the laser to penetrate.

The technician will also adjust the laser according to your hair color, skin color, hair thickness, and area. The procedure is painless and you should be able to carry on with your day as normal afterward.

Costs

Generally speaking, the larger the area you treat, the more expensive it will be.

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the average cost per session is $235. However, sessions can range anywhere between $50-$900, depending on the area. Typically, you will need 4-6 sessions spaced 3-6 weeks apart for best results.

Laser Hair Removal: Wrap Up

We hope this information helps you feel better about your decision.
