What Is a Valmont Facial and Why Do Five-Star Hotels Use It?

4/21/2026

Picture

Most people first encounter Valmont at a Ritz-Carlton, a Four Seasons, or a Badrutt's Palace in St. Moritz. It shows up on spa menus between the $400 massages and the private thermal suite bookings. And if you've ever wondered what exactly it is, and why the most particular hotels in the world keep choosing it, this article is for you.

The short answer: Valmont is a Swiss luxury skincare line built on cellular science. The facials that carry its name are designed to do things a regular hydrafacial simply cannot. And right now, for a limited time until May 10th, 2026, Astra Medicare is offering a special Mother's Day Valmont Facial promotion across all three of our locations in Brampton, Toronto, and Kitchener.

Whether you're treating yourself or looking for a gift that actually means something this Mother's Day, this is worth reading.

A Little Background on Valmont

Valmont was founded in Geneva in 1985. The brand didn't start in beauty. It started in medicine. The original research was rooted in cellular rehabilitation, specifically the study of how living cells repair and renew themselves. That science eventually became the foundation of an entire luxury skincare system.

The flagship technology is a double-stranded DNA complex. In basic terms, the brand identified that DNA fragments (the same kind found naturally in our cells) could help accelerate skin recovery and improve the skin's ability to hold moisture and rebuild structure. That discovery is what separates Valmont from most other luxury lines, which lean heavily on antioxidants, peptides, or plant extracts as their hero ingredients.

Valmont uses liposome delivery technology to get active ingredients deeper into the skin than a standard cream or serum can reach. That matters. It's the difference between moisturizing the surface and actually influencing how skin cells function.

The brand is a fixture in dermatology circles in Europe, and it has quietly built a presence in North America through luxury hospitality rather than mass retail. You won't find it at a drugstore. That's by design.

What Actually Happens During a Valmont Facial?

The experience is different from what most people expect of a facial. It's not just cleansing and masking. There's a precision to the sequence that reflects the clinical background of the brand.

A standard Valmont treatment typically moves through these stages:

  • Double cleanse to remove surface debris and prepare the skin barrier for active ingredients.
  • Exfoliation, usually enzymatic rather than abrasive, to clear dead skin cells without causing inflammation.
  • The signature two-mask application. This is Valmont's most recognizable moment. Two masks are applied simultaneously, each targeting a different concern. One typically focuses on hydration and cellular recovery while the other addresses firmness or luminosity. Most facial treatments apply one mask. Valmont applies two. That compression of treatment time is part of what the brand is known for.
  • Serum infusion, using Valmont's concentrated actives, often applied with specific lifting and contouring massage techniques that have a visible effect on facial contour even within a single session.
  • Finishing moisturizer and SPF, completing the barrier function and protecting the work done during treatment.

The whole process typically runs between 60 and 90 minutes. Guests consistently describe the experience as deeply relaxing, not clinical. The texture and scent profile of the products lean into the Swiss luxury positioning in a way that feels genuine rather than performative. You leave looking noticeably different, not recovering from anything. No redness, no sensitivity, no just get home and stay inside for 48 hours instructions.

Why Do Luxury Hotels Specifically Choose Valmont?

This is the part most people find surprising. Hotels like the Four Seasons, the Mandarin Oriental, and Badrutt's Palace have access to every skincare brand on earth. They choose deliberately, and they choose Valmont for a few specific reasons.

The results are consistent and visible after one session. For hotel spas, this matters enormously. A guest books a treatment, spends a significant amount, and goes back to their room. If they look better, they tell people. If the result requires a series of six sessions before anything is noticeable, that guest doesn't come back. Valmont produces results in one session. That's a practical business reason, not just a luxury claim.

The safety profile works for all skin types. Hotels host guests from everywhere, with every possible skin type, condition, and sensitivity level. A treatment that might work beautifully for one skin type and cause a reaction in another is a liability. Valmont's formulations are designed to be effective and non-reactive across the board. That consistency is valuable when you can't predict who is walking through the door.

The brand story travels. Valmont's Swiss heritage, its medical origins, and its positioning at the top of the luxury skincare market give hotel spas a story worth telling. Guests recognize the name, or they discover it at the hotel and go looking for it when they get home. That recognition loop benefits both the hotel and the brand.

The techniques are genuinely skilled. Valmont trains the practitioners who administer its treatments. The massage protocols, the layering sequence, the timing of each step: these are not left to individual interpretation. When a spa invests in Valmont training, they're committing to delivering the treatment as designed. That level of quality control is exactly what high-end hospitality properties are looking for.

What Skin Concerns Does a Valmont Facial Address?

Valmont facials are not one-size-fits-all, but they tend to be especially effective for a particular set of concerns:

  • Dehydration and dullness. If your skin looks flat, tired, or grey, the deep hydration and cellular repair focus of Valmont tends to produce visible brightness within one treatment.
  • Fine lines and loss of firmness. The lifting massage techniques combined with the collagen-supporting actives can create a noticeable lift, particularly around the jaw, cheeks, and under the eyes.
  • Uneven texture. The exfoliation and DNA complex work together to smooth the surface and improve how light reflects off the skin.
  • Reactive or sensitive skin. Because the formulations avoid common irritants and the techniques are gentle, Valmont is often a good option for people who have had reactions to more aggressive treatments.
  • Pre-event or occasion skin. No downtime, immediate results, and a lasting glow make Valmont one of the more practical choices if you want your skin to look its best for something specific.

It works across age groups and across most skin types. That versatility is part of why it sits so comfortably on five-star menus where the guest list is unpredictable.

The Perfect Mother's Day Gift: Valmont at Astra Medicare

Here's the honest truth about Mother's Day gifts. Most of them are nice. A candle is nice. A gift card is nice. A Valmont facial at a medically-led aesthetics clinic, delivered by trained professionals, with visible results she'll notice before she even gets home: that's memorable.

Astra Medicare is running a special Valmont Facial promotion through May 10th, 2026. That's right before Mother's Day. The timing isn't an accident.

If the mom in your life has never experienced a Valmont facial, this is the introduction. If she already loves it, she knows what this means.

Book at any of our three locations in Brampton, Toronto, or Kitchener, under the direction of Dr. Svitlana Blesko, and let her spend 60 to 90 minutes being genuinely looked after.

This isn't a wellness trend. Valmont has been in the hands of the world's most discerning spa guests for four decades. It earned that position.

How Often Should You Get a Valmont Facial?

One treatment is enough to see a difference. That's true. But most people who experience a Valmont facial start thinking about the next one before they've left the building.

For maintenance, once a month is the sweet spot for most people. The skin's renewal cycle runs roughly 28 days, and a monthly facial aligns with that rhythm. For someone new to Valmont who wants to address a specific concern more aggressively, a series of three treatments spaced two to three weeks apart can produce cumulative results that go well beyond what a single session delivers.

Valmont pairs well with most other treatments. There's no meaningful conflict with most injectable or laser treatments when properly spaced. Your practitioner at Astra Medicare can help you build a plan that makes sense for your skin and your schedule.

Why Astra Medicare for Your Valmont Facial?

There are a lot of places that use the word luxury. Fewer places have earned it. Astra Medicare was recognized as the Best Non-Surgical Health Care Company for 2024 by Corporate Vision, and has received the Consumer Choice Award in the Cosmetic Procedures category for two consecutive years. Those recognitions reflect something real: a team that takes the quality of care seriously and a medical director in Dr. Svitlana Blesko who holds the clinical standard on every treatment offered.

When you book a Valmont facial at Astra Medicare, you're not getting a spa experience with clinical branding layered on top. You're getting a medically-administered luxury treatment from people who understand both sides of that description.

New to Astra Medicare? First-time guests receive $20 off facial treatments of $100 or more and 20% off skincare products on their first visit.

Members of the Astra Medicare loyalty program can save up to 20% on treatments. If you're not enrolled, it's free to join.

Book Before May 10th, 2026

The Mother's Day Valmont Facial promotion runs until May 10th, 2026. Three locations. One standard of care.

The "Dark Skin Tax" Nobody Talks About in Laser Hair Removal

3/17/2026

Maybe someone at a clinic told you the laser they use is not suitable for your skin. Maybe you booked a session somewhere, paid full price, and came home with hyperpigmentation that took months to fade. Or maybe you've just heard enough stories from people who look like you that you stopped considering laser as a real option.

That hesitation is understandable. For a long time, it was well-founded. Early laser hair removal technology was developed with lighter skin tones in mind. People with darker skin were either turned away or treated with equipment that wasn't calibrated for them, and they paid for it with burns, dark spots, and compromised results.

But that era of lasers is not the era we are in now. The science has moved, the technology has moved, and clinics that have kept pace offer safe, effective treatment across the full spectrum of skin tones. What has not kept pace is the information that people with darker skin receive before they book.

This article exists to close that gap. No jargon. No overselling. Just an honest explanation of what went wrong historically, what changed, and what you should know before booking any laser hair removal appointment in Brampton, Toronto, or Kitchener.

Laser Hair Removal Was Not Designed With Your Skin in Mind

To understand why darker skin tones were so often excluded from laser hair removal, you need to know one thing about how the treatment works. Lasers target melanin, the pigment that gives hair its colour. When the laser hits melanin in the hair follicle, the light converts to heat, damages the follicle, and slows or stops future growth.

The problem is that melanin is not only in your hair. It is also in your skin. And the earlier generations of laser systems, particularly alexandrite lasers operating at 755 nanometres, had such a strong affinity for melanin that they could not clearly distinguish between melanin in the follicle and melanin in the surrounding skin tissue.

For people with Fitzpatrick skin types I through III, that overlap was manageable. The skin itself carried relatively little melanin, so the laser could target the follicle without much competing absorption. For skin types IV through VI, which includes most South Asian, Black, Middle Eastern, Filipino, and Latin American complexions, that competition was the source of real harm. Burns, blistering, scarring, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation were documented complications, not rare anomalies.

Research published in the International Journal of Research in Dermatology confirms that traditional laser technologies were developed with lighter skin phototypes in mind and pose heightened risks of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, scarring, and paradoxical hair growth in melanin-rich skin. Patients were not imagining the risk. It was clinically real.

Some clinics still use older or less sophisticated equipment. Some use alexandrite-only platforms without adequate cooling systems. Some do not properly assess Fitzpatrick skin type before treatment. That is where much of the ongoing harm originates.

Where Do You Fall on the Fitzpatrick Scale?

Dermatologists classify skin tones using the Fitzpatrick scale, a six-point system based on how skin responds to sun exposure.

  • Type I: Very light skin, always burns, never tans
  • Type II: Light skin, usually burns, tans with difficulty
  • Type III: Medium skin, sometimes burns, gradually tans
  • Type IV: Olive or light brown skin, rarely burns, tans easily
  • Type V: Brown skin, very rarely burns, tans darkly
  • Type VI: Deeply pigmented skin, never burns

If you have South Asian, Black, Middle Eastern, Southeast Asian, or Latin American heritage, you likely fall somewhere between types III and VI. This is not a niche demographic in Brampton or the Greater Toronto Area. According to the 2021 Canadian census, people of South Asian origin make up 52.4 percent of Brampton's population, and Black residents represent another 13.1 percent. The majority of the people living in this city have skin tones for which laser technology selection genuinely determines whether a treatment is safe or harmful.

The Fitzpatrick type is not just a classification exercise. It dictates which wavelength is appropriate, which fluence settings to use, which cooling protocols are necessary, and how sessions should be spaced. A clinic that skips this assessment or treats it as a formality is not giving you the level of care you need.

The Technology That Changed Everything

The shift came from a different laser wavelength: the long-pulsed Nd:YAG, operating at 1064 nanometres. At this longer wavelength, the laser penetrates deeper into the dermis, bypassing much of the epidermal melanin and reaching the hair follicle more directly.

The physics matter here. Because the 1064nm wavelength has a lower melanin absorption coefficient than shorter wavelengths, it does not compete as aggressively with the pigment in surrounding skin tissue. It can reach the follicle with enough energy to damage it while sparing the epidermis from the thermal injury that caused so much harm with older systems.

A meta-analysis of 10 randomized controlled trials involving over 1,100 participants with Fitzpatrick skin types III through V found that Nd lasers demonstrated superior performance on darker skin and fewer adverse effects compared to alexandrite lasers. The conclusion was direct: Nd:YAG is the recommended modality for this demographic.

The Candela GentleMax Pro goes one step further by combining both wavelengths in a single platform. The 755nm alexandrite handles lighter skin types with precision, while the 1064nm Nd:YAG is deployed for Fitzpatrick types III through VI. The system does not force a compromise between efficacy and safety. It offers both, matched to the patient in the chair.

The other critical component is the Dynamic Cooling Device, or DCD. Integrated directly into the GentleMax Pro handpiece, the DCD releases a precise burst of cryogen spray onto the skin milliseconds before each laser pulse. This cools the epidermis and protects surface tissue in the moment of greatest thermal risk, then the laser fires into the pre-cooled skin. The result is significantly less discomfort and a dramatically reduced risk of thermal injury at the skin surface.

This combination of the right wavelength and active epidermal cooling is what makes laser hair removal genuinely safe for darker skin tones when performed by a properly trained technician on a properly equipped platform.

What the Research Actually Shows for Darker Skin

The clinical evidence is consistent and increasingly robust. A retrospective study of 150 individuals with Fitzpatrick types IV through VI undergoing long-pulsed Nd:YAG laser hair removal found that 78.7 percent reported good or satisfactory outcomes, the mean hair reduction was 54.3 percent, and complications occurred in only 14 percent of patients. Subsequent hair growth was slower and finer in nearly 80 percent of the group.

A more recent peer-reviewed study published in 2025 found no adverse events or paradoxical hypertrichosis in participants treated with low-fluence 1064nm Nd:YAG, supporting its use as a safe and effective option across darker skin types.

These are not outlier findings. They reflect a well-established body of evidence built over more than two decades. The technology works. What has historically failed people with darker skin is not the science. It is access to clinics using the right equipment and the training to deploy it properly.

A few things are worth setting out honestly. Results vary by hair colour and coarseness. Very fine, light-coloured hair, even on darker skin, has less melanin in the follicle and responds less dramatically to laser. Hormonal factors can influence regrowth, particularly in conditions like PCOS. The number of sessions required averages six to eight, spaced four to six weeks apart, and that timeline is the same regardless of skin tone. Realistic expectations are part of responsible care, not a caveat designed to lower the bar.

The Connection Between Hair Removal, Ingrown Hairs, and Hyperpigmentation

There is a reason many people with darker skin tones arrive at laser hair removal already dealing with hyperpigmentation. Shaving and waxing, the alternatives most people use before committing to laser, are among the leading causes of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation on the face, neck, underarms, bikini line, and legs.

The cycle works like this. Shaving cuts the hair at the surface, leaving a sharp edge that can curve back into the skin as it grows. The resulting ingrown hair triggers local inflammation. For skin with higher melanin content, that inflammatory response is more likely to deposit additional pigment in the area, leaving a dark mark that persists long after the ingrown hair resolves.

Waxing creates a similar pattern through repeated trauma to the follicle. Over time, the cumulative effect of ingrown hairs, bumps, and chronic low-grade irritation creates an uneven skin tone that is difficult to treat and recurs as long as the hair removal method remains the same.

Laser hair removal with the GentleMax Pro addresses this at the source. As the follicle is progressively damaged over a series of treatments, the hair grows back finer, lighter, and more slowly. Ingrown hairs become less frequent. The skin's inflammatory cycle settles. For many patients, the combination of reduced hair growth and reduced follicular trauma allows residual hyperpigmentation to fade on its own over time.

For those who need additional support for existing dark spots, Astra Medicare's skin-brightening solutions and SylfirmX for melasma and pigmentation can be considered as part of a broader skin-health plan. Your consultation is the right place to discuss whether a combined approach makes sense for your skin.

Questions That Protect You Before You Book Anywhere

The question of whether a clinic is equipped for your skin type is not an awkward one to ask. It is the right one. A clinic that cannot answer these questions clearly is telling you something important.

  • What laser system do you use, and does it include a 1064nm Nd:YAG wavelength?
  • Do you have experience treating Fitzpatrick type IV, V, or VI skin?
  • Do you perform a Fitzpatrick skin type assessment before setting treatment parameters?
  • Is a patch test included before the first full session?
  • How do you adjust settings if I experience any redness, irritation, or pigment change between sessions?
  • What is your protocol if post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation occurs?

If a clinic's laser platform is alexandrite-only with no cooling system, or if the technician cannot explain what wavelength they will use for your skin type, that is a clinic to walk away from. The lowest price is not a bargain when the technology or training is not matched to your needs.

It is also worth asking whether the clinic offers a broader range of treatments that are appropriate for darker skin. The GentleMax Pro is also used to treat beard bumps (pseudofolliculitis barbae), rosacea, facial redness, and vascular lesions, conditions that disproportionately affect people with higher Fitzpatrick types and that benefit from the same wavelength precision and cooling technology.

How Astra Medicare Approaches Darker Skin Types

Astra Medicare uses the Candela GentleMax Pro at its Brampton, Toronto, and Kitchener locations. The dual-wavelength platform allows technicians to select the appropriate wavelength for each client's skin type rather than defaulting to a single setting across all patients.

Every client begins with a personalized consultation that includes a Fitzpatrick skin type assessment. This is not a checkbox. It determines the wavelength, fluence, pulse width, and cooling settings used throughout your treatment series. Sessions are spaced to account for the hair growth cycle, typically four to six weeks apart, and parameters are reviewed and adjusted at each visit based on your skin's response.

A patch test is part of the process before your first full session. For clients who have had difficult experiences with laser elsewhere, this is one of the more meaningful assurances a clinic can offer.

Given that the majority of Brampton's population has South Asian or Black heritage, Astra Medicare's clinical team has extensive hands-on experience with Fitzpatrick types IV through VI across diverse presentations. That experience matters when it comes to reading skin response, making conservative adjustments in early sessions, and building a treatment plan that prioritizes both safety and long-term results.

For clients interested in a broader approach to skin health, Astra Medicare also offers HydraFacial, Lumecca IPL skin rejuvenation, Morpheus8, Tixel for the face and body, and a range of facial treatments. Your consultation is the place to explore what a full skin care plan could look like alongside your laser series.

Pre- and Post-Care for Darker Skin Types

Proper preparation and aftercare are not optional additions. They are part of what makes your treatment safe and your results lasting. The following applies specifically to darker skin types.

Before your session:

  • Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for at least two weeks prior to each session
  • Do not wax, thread, or pluck for four to six weeks before treatment. Shaving is fine and is actually recommended.
  • Disclose any retinoids, chemical exfoliants, or prescription topicals you are using. These increase skin sensitivity and may need to be paused.
  • Inform your technician of any history of hyperpigmentation, keloid scarring, or previous adverse reactions to laser or light-based treatments

After your session:

  • Apply SPF 30 or higher every day for the entire duration of your treatment series, not just on sunny days
  • Avoid heat exposure, including hot showers, exercise, and saunas, for 24 to 48 hours post-treatment
  • Mild redness and warmth in the treated area are normal and temporary, typically resolving within a few hours
  • If you notice any changes in pigmentation between sessions, contact the clinic before your next appointment. Do not wait.
  • Resist the urge to exfoliate or apply active skincare to the treated area for several days after each session

The Bottom Line

Laser hair removal was not built for darker skin. That is a historical fact, and the hesitation many people carry today reflects real experiences, not unfounded fear.

What is also true is that the technology has moved decisively past that era. When the right wavelength is matched to the right skin type, administered by a trained technician, on a platform with integrated cooling, laser hair removal is safe and effective for Fitzpatrick types IV through VI. The clinical evidence is consistent and increasingly conclusive on this.

The variable is not your skin. The variable is whether the clinic you walk into is equipped and trained to work with it.

If you have been told laser is not for you, or if a previous experience left you with more harm than help, a proper consultation is the right next step. Not a commitment to treatment. A conversation.

Book a consultation at Astra Medicare in Brampton, Toronto, or Kitchener. A patch test is included before your first session. Bring your questions, including the hard ones. That is what the consultation is for.

Best Time of Year for CO2 Laser in Ontario (And Why Winter Is Ideal)

2/22/2026

Picture

If you’re considering CO2 laser treatment, chances are you’ve already looked into what it does, recovery time, and expected results. One question you may not have considered quite yet is: when should you book your appointment?

Timing your CO2 laser treatment can be especially important in Ontario. Depending on the time of year you choose to treat your skin, you may experience faster healing, more comfortable recovery, and even better end results. Book your appointment strategically, and you could step into summer with your smoothest skin yet. Book it without thinking, and you might be setting yourself up for a recovery that’s more difficult than it has to be.

So, when is the ideal time to get CO2 laser treatment done in Ontario? Late fall and winter. Here’s why.

What Is CO2 Laser Treatment?

CO2 laser resurfacing involves directing laser energy onto your skin to vaporize the top layer and stimulate collagen growth beneath. It can be used to treat fine lines and wrinkles, sun spots and uneven skin tone, acne scars and surgical scars, rough skin texture, and skin laxity on the face and neck. Of all laser treatments, CO2 laser resurfacing is the most effective.

There are two types: fully ablative and fractional. With fully ablative CO2 laser resurfacing, the laser removes the entire top layer of skin. With fractional CO2 laser resurfacing, thousands of microscopic columns of skin are treated while the surrounding skin is left untouched. This allows your skin to heal much faster. Your treatment provider will help you determine which type of CO2 laser resurfacing is best for you.

Depending on how aggressive your treatment is, recovery can take anywhere from one to two weeks. Your skin will be red, swollen, and sensitive during this time. It will also peel and appear raw before it begins to heal. Once your skin heals, collagen production will continue for up to 6 months after treatment.

Why Timing Your Treatment Matters

When you have CO2 laser skin resurfacing, your skin is extra sensitive. The top layer has been stripped away, and the new skin growing underneath is thin and delicate. Post-laser skin is one of the most sun-sensitive skin types dermatologists see.

Tanning or getting too much sun exposure after laser skin resurfacing is one of the most common causes of patients having problems with their skin. Just a few minutes spent in the sun during your recovery can lead to weeks, if not months, of redness, sunspots (also known as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation), uneven skin tone, and even permanent scars.

That’s why your physician will recommend that you avoid the sun for at least a month after your procedure and apply SPF 30 (or higher) sunscreen, broad spectrum, every day, even when it’s cloudy. Following those instructions is simple when your treatment is in February. But what about July? When you’re headed to the cottage or walking to a patio for lunch, it can be tough to keep your recovering skin covered up.

The time of year that you decide to get laser skin resurfacing has a big impact on how difficult it is to follow those instructions.

Why Winter Is the Best Season for CO2 Laser in Ontario

The UV Index Drops Dramatically

Ontario summers are beautiful, but they are also intense. Southern Ontario, including Toronto and the surrounding areas, sees some of the highest UV index readings in the country during June, July, and August. UV levels regularly hit 7 or higher on summer afternoons, which means skin damage can happen quickly even with sunscreen.

By November, the UV index in Ontario has dropped to a 1 or 2 on most days. That is a fraction of the summer risk. For someone with fresh post-laser skin, that difference is enormous. Lower UV means less chance of sun damage during the critical healing window, and far less stress about accidentally catching too much sun on your way to and from work.

Cooler Temperatures Help Your Skin Heal

Heat and humidity are not your skin's friends during recovery. Sweating can irritate healing skin and introduce bacteria to open or raw areas. High humidity can slow the drying and peeling process. Ontario summers, especially in July and August, bring exactly those conditions.

Winter gives you the opposite environment. Cool, dry air is much gentler on healing skin. You are less likely to sweat, less likely to overheat, and more likely to spend time indoors resting, which is exactly what your skin needs in the first week or two after treatment.

One thing to be aware of: indoor heating during winter can dry out your skin, so it is important to use a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer generously during recovery. Your provider will give you specific recommendations for what to apply and when.

Winter Clothing Protects Your Skin Naturally

One of the easiest things about recovering from a CO2 laser in the winter is that your wardrobe does the protective work for you. Scarves, turtlenecks, and high collars cover treated areas on the face and neck without any extra effort. Wide-brimmed hats feel natural in the summer but look a little out of place in January, when a warm beanie does just as good a job.

Physical protection from clothing is one of the most reliable ways to shield healing skin from UV rays. In winter, this kind of coverage comes naturally with getting dressed in the morning.

Your Social Calendar Is Quieter

Recovery from the CO2 laser is not exactly glamorous. For the first week, your skin will be red and may look like a sunburn. It will peel. You might not want to be seen in public or on video calls. Most people take at least a few days off work or work from home during the peak of recovery.

In the summer, that kind of downtime is hard to schedule around. Weddings, outdoor events, barbecues, camping trips, and vacations all crowd the calendar. In winter, and especially in January and February, there is simply less going on. Taking a week to stay home and let your skin heal is much easier to manage.

If you do want to be healed in time for holiday events, booking in early to mid-November gives you plenty of time to recover before December gatherings.

You Are Treating Summer Damage While It Is Fresh

Every Ontario summer leaves its mark on your skin. Months of UV exposure, even with diligent sunscreen use, can result in sunspots, uneven tone, fine lines, and a dull complexion. Fall and winter are the perfect time to address that damage before another summer layer is added on top.

Getting a CO2 laser treatment in November or December targets fresh sun damage while it is still in the early stages. Waiting another year allows that damage to settle deeper into the skin, making it harder to treat.

The Treat Now, Glow by Spring Timeline

One of the most exciting things about getting a CO2 laser in the winter is the timeline. CO2 laser does not just heal your skin overnight. Collagen production continues to build for up to 6 months after your treatment, so your results keep improving month after month.

Here is what that can look like in practice:

If you have your treatment in November, you will be fully healed by December. Your skin will continue building new collagen all winter, and by the time March and April arrive, your complexion will look noticeably clearer, smoother, and more even.

If you book in January or February, you will be healed well before spring. Peak results land right around May and June, just as the warm weather arrives and you are spending more time outdoors and in social situations.

The result is that you get to enjoy your best skin exactly when it matters most. You spend the cold, quiet months recovering and building collagen, and you emerge in the spring looking refreshed and radiant.

What About Fall? Is October or November Okay?

Yes! Fall starts the ideal time-frame, not winter. Once September hits and the UV index begins to drop in Ontario...

October and November are milder temperatures with less humidity and a significantly weaker UV profile compared to summer. The social engagements begin to slow down, and you find yourself spending more time indoors anyway.

Winter only has one real benefit compared to early fall months, and that's that the UV is lower and you just don't feel like being outside as much. However, if you are set on booking in Oct. then there is no need to hesitate.

Picture your ideal time frame as Oct. - Feb,. with Nov. - Jan. being ideal.

Why Summer Is the Riskiest Time to Book

This does not meana CO2 laser is impossible in the summer. With strict sun avoidance, daily SPF, and a lot of discipline, some patients do get treatments done in the warmer months. But it is harder, and the risks are higher.

The combination of post-laser skin and intense summer sun creates the ideal conditions for complications. Even a few minutes of unprotected UV exposure can trigger hyperpigmentation on healing skin. Sweat and humidity can irritate the treated area. And the lifestyle demands of summer, whether that is travel, outdoor activities, or social events, make it genuinely difficult to follow the recovery protocols as closely as you need to.

If summer is your only option, speak honestly with your provider about your lifestyle. They may recommend a lighter treatment setting to reduce risk, or they may suggest waiting until fall to get better results with fewer complications.

How to Prepare for Your Winter CO2 Laser Appointment

Once you have decided to book in the fall or winter, there are a few things you can do in the weeks leading up to your treatment to make sure your skin is ready.

Start by limiting sun exposure and wearing SPF 30 or higher every day, even in winter. UV rays penetrate clouds and can still affect your skin even on overcast Ontario days. A consistent sunscreen habit before your treatment helps set your skin up for a smoother recovery.

Discontinue retinoids, exfoliating acids, and any prescription-strength topicals at least seven to ten days before your treatment. These products increase skin sensitivity, and using them close to your treatment date can cause complications.

If you have a history of cold sores, let your provider know before your appointment. They may prescribe an antiviral medication to take around the time of your treatment, since the laser can sometimes trigger outbreaks in people who are prone to them.

Arrive to your appointment with clean skin and no makeup, lotions, or active skincare products on the treatment area.

Post-Treatment Care in an Ontario Winter

Your provider will give you detailed aftercare instructions, but here are a few things that are especially relevant for recovering during a Canadian winter.

Keep your skin well moisturized. Heated indoor air pulls moisture out of the skin, which can make the peeling phase of recovery more uncomfortable. Use a plain, fragrance-free moisturizer as often as your provider recommends.

Sun protection is still essential even in winter. Yes, the UV index is lower, but it is not zero. Any time you go outside, apply a mineral-based SPF 30 or higher. This is especially important in the first month after treatment.

Most patients are socially comfortable again within seven to ten days. Full skin normalcy returns around the two- to three-week mark, even if some mild pinkness can persist for a little longer. The collagen-building process continues quietly under the surface for months, so be patient with your results.

Choosing the Right Provider in Ontario

A great treatment and a great result start with choosing a qualified, experienced provider. In Ontario, CO2 laser treatments should be performed by or under the supervision of a licensed physician or regulated healthcare professional with specific training in laser skin resurfacing.

When you consult with a provider, ask about their experience with CO2 laser, the type of equipment they use, their pre-treatment and post-treatment protocols, and what level of downtime you should expect based on your skin type and goals. A good provider will also give you honest guidance about the best timing for your treatment and will not pressure you to book during a season that is not right for your recovery.

Ontario has excellent clinics in Toronto, Ottawa, Hamilton, London, and beyond. Take the time to find one that feels right, reads transparent reviews, and books a proper consultation before committing.

The Bottom Line

CO2 laser resurfacing is one of the most powerful skin improvement tools available, but it works best when the conditions around your recovery are set up for success.

In Ontario, that means taking advantage of the fall and winter months, when UV levels are low, temperatures are cool, and your lifestyle naturally supports the rest and protection your healing skin needs.

Book your consultation or treatment at Astra Medicare between October and February, follow your provider's aftercare instructions closely, and you could be stepping into spring with noticeably smoother, clearer, more youthful-looking skin. The best time to start is now, while the season is working in your favour.

Turning Back the Clock or Finally Feeling Comfortable in Your Own Skin?

Aging Is Natural, and Feeling Good About Your Skin Matters

As you age, your skin changes. It can become drier, looser or less luminous. Fine lines often appear around your eyes. Your neck may begin to look thinner or crepey. These changes are normal and don’t necessarily correspond with how vibrant and confident you feel.

Medical aesthetics is all about helping your skin look healthy, not trying to make you look ageless. The objective is to enhance your natural appearance so you can feel good when you look in the mirror.

A mindful treatment plan honours those changes, rather than battling them. Nuanced corrections to tone, texture and hydration can help to rebalance and soften. The goal is simple. Skin that looks refreshed and pampered, not transformed. When your features still look like you, just well-rested, that confidence is visible long before anyone notices a line or a crease.

What Is Medical Aesthetics?

Medical aesthetics combines professional skincare with science-based technology. Unlike basic spa treatments, medical aesthetics services are designed to work deeper in the skin and are guided by trained medical professionals.

These treatments can help improve:

  • Dull or tired-looking skin
  • Dryness and dehydration
  • Uneven skin texture
  • Early signs of aging

Medical aesthetics is especially helpful for adults 35 and older who want visible but natural-looking results.

The BelaMD Facial and How It Supports Skin Health

The BelaMD Facial is a modern treatment that gently cleanses, exfoliates, and hydrates the skin. It uses advanced technology to remove impurities while delivering nourishing serums into the skin.

How the BelaMD Facial works:

  • Deeply cleans pores
  • Gently removes dead skin cells
  • Infuses moisture and nutrients
  • Improves skin hydration and glow

This treatment is comfortable and relaxing, making it a good option for people with busy schedules.

Benefits of the BelaMD Facial:

  • Brighter-looking skin
  • Smoother texture
  • Improved hydration
  • Little to no downtime

Adding the Valmont Collagen Mask for Enhanced Results

The Valmont Collagen Mask is often added to the BelaMD Facial to boost hydration and comfort. Valmont is a Swiss skincare brand known for high-quality ingredients and advanced skin research.

Why collagen is important:
Collagen helps keep skin firm and smooth. As we age, collagen levels decrease. The Valmont Collagen Mask helps support moisture and gives the skin a fuller appearance.

Benefits of the Valmont Collagen Mask:

  • Deep hydration
  • Softer and smoother skin
  • A calming and relaxing experience
  • Immediate refreshed appearance

Understanding Salmon DNA Skincare

Salmon DNA skincare is inspired by skin-repair science, often referred to as PDRN-based technology. These products are designed to support hydration and skin strength.

Salmon DNA skincare is commonly used for the face, eyes, and neck because these areas have thinner and more delicate skin.

Benefits of Salmon DNA skincare:

  • Supports skin resilience
  • Improves hydration levels
  • It blocks cells from UV damage
  • Protects against free radicals
  • Activates the cell regeneration
  • Helps skin look smoother
  • Suitable for aging or tired-looking skin

These products are usually used at home to help maintain results from in-clinic treatments.

Why Treating the Face, Eyes, and Neck Together Matters

The eyes and neck often show signs of aging earlier than the face. Treating only the face can make results look uneven.

A balanced approach that includes the face, eyes, and neck helps create natural-looking results. When all three areas are treated together, the skin looks healthier and more consistent overall.

This approach works well for adults 35 and older who want subtle improvements rather than dramatic changes.

Turning Back the Clock or Feeling Like Yourself Again

Many people do not want to look younger. They simply want to look well-rested and refreshed. Treatments like the BelaMD Facial, Valmont Collagen Mask, and Salmon DNA skincare support that goal.

Friends may notice that you look healthier or brighter, but they may not be able to tell why. That natural result is often what patients appreciate most.

These treatments are a good fit for people who:

  • Want natural-looking results
  • Prefer gentle and non-invasive treatments
  • Care about long-term skin health

What to Expect Before, During, and After Treatment

Before treatment:

  • Professional consultation
  • Skin assessment and personalized plan

During treatment:

  • Comfortable and relaxing experience
  • Gentle sensations

After treatment:

  • Skin often looks brighter right away
  • Continued improvement over time
  • Little to no downtime for most patients

Combining Treatments for Long-Term Skin Confidence

The best results often come from combining professional treatments with home skincare.

A simple treatment plan may include:

  1. BelaMD Facial for cleansing and hydration
  2. Valmont Collagen Mask for added moisture
  3. Salmon DNA skincare at home for ongoing support

This approach focuses on long-term skin health instead of quick fixes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the BelaMD Facial suitable for sensitive skin?

Yes. The treatment can be adjusted for sensitive skin types.

How often should Salmon DNA skincare be used?

Most products are designed for daily use. Your provider will give specific advice.

Are the results immediate?

Many people notice a glow right away, with continued improvement over time.

Are these treatments only for women?

No. These treatments are suitable for all genders.

Is there downtime?

There is little to no downtime for most patients.

Final Thoughts

Aging is inevitable. But being uncomfortable in your own skin does not have to be. Medical aesthetics treatments can help adults aged 35 and older to support healthy, natural-looking skin. Whatever your interest may be, from the BelaMD Facial, to the Valmont Collagen Mask or Salmon DNA for the face, eyes and neck, a consultation can help guide you on what might be right for you.

Thinking About Glutathione Shots for Skin Lightening? Read This First

glutathione shots patient at astra medicare

Glutathione shots have become super popular for skin lightening in the past few years. You’ve heard all about lighter, brighter skin with fewer dark spots and more even skin tone.

But before you show up for treatment with that sleeve rolled up, here’s what you need to know.

In this easy-to-read guide, we answer all your questions in plain English. We’ll cover how glutathione works, why it’s used for skin lightening, benefits and risks, cost and what you can expect from Astra Medicare.

At Astra Medicare, we provide glutathione injection treatments in Brampton, Toronto, and Kitchener, Ontario. We follow medical-grade safety practices every step of the way.

Let’s get into it.

What Is Glutathione

Glutathione is an antioxidant your body naturally produces. It helps detoxify your liver and support your immune system. It also influences the production of melanin, the pigment that gives your skin its colour.

Elevated levels of glutathione in your body may decrease melanin production, leading to lighter and more even-toned skin over time. Glutathione is found in food, supplements and skincare products. Injections work fast because glutathione is delivered directly into your bloodstream.

How Do Glutathione Injections Work for Skin Lightening

Glutathione injections flood your system with a concentrated dose of glutathione. This can alter how the cells in your skin produce melanin. Glutathione injections may help shift the skin from producing dark melanin to light melanin.

Injections are a popular route of administration. They may work more quickly than oral or topical alternatives. You may notice some changes in a few weeks. Most people notice more dramatic changes after a few months. It depends on the characteristics of your skin. It also depends on the dose, your overall lifestyle, and frequency of treatment.

The changes to the colour of your skin take time. The end goal of treatment is bright and even skin. It is not an immediate whitening of your skin.

Are Glutathione Shots Safe

Many sources state that glutathione can be safe if used properly under a medical setting. However, there can be risks in all forms of treatment. Glutathione injections are not regulated by Canadian health professionals like a prescription drug. Therefore, it is essential that you go with a reputable clinic you can trust.

At Astra Medicare, we make safety our priority. Our staff will always review your medical history, discuss your goals and ensure that the treatment is suitable for you. Glutathione injections should never be performed by a non-medical source or an unqualified person.

Glutathione may not be suitable for those who are pregnant, breastfeeding or have certain medical conditions.

Benefits of Glutathione Injections

People who use glutathione shots for skin lightening may experience:

  • Brighter, glowing skin

  • A more even skin tone

  • Reduced dark spots

  • Less melasma or hyperpigmentation

  • Stronger immune health

  • Better antioxidant support

  • A fresher and smoother appearance

Many people feel more confident after treatments. For best results, you should follow a healthy lifestyle and protect your skin from the sun.

Possible Side Effects and Risks

It is important to know that glutathione shots can have side effects. Some people may notice:

  • Headaches

  • Nausea

  • Upset stomach

  • Light dizziness

  • Skin sensitivity

  • Allergic reactions

There are also risks if the injections are not done properly. These include infection or unsafe dosing. That is why it is important to get treated at a clinic like Astra Medicare. Their team uses medical-grade products and safe techniques.

How Many Sessions Will You Need

A common glutathione skin lightening regimen is weekly or twice-weekly injections initially. Many individuals experience early changes within four to six weeks. It may take up to three months or more to experience maximum improvement.

Once the desired appearance is achieved, the treatment may be tapered to a maintenance schedule of one shot every few weeks or once a month. Your provider will help you develop a plan that is right for your skin and your goals.

Results are more long-lasting when you use sunscreen, avoid smoking, drink plenty of water, and take care of your skin.

Cost of Glutathione Shots in Canada

The cost can vary depending on:

  • How many shots you need

  • The strength of each dose

  • The clinic you choose

  • Add-ons like Vitamin C boosters

Most clinics in Canada offer glutathione shots as a cosmetic treatment, so they are not covered by insurance.

You should plan your budget based on your treatment schedule. Astra Medicare can explain all your options and give you a clear cost guide before you start.

What to Expect at Astra Medicare

When you book an appointment at Astra Medicare in Brampton, Toronto, or Kitchener, you will go through a friendly and simple process.

Here is what usually happens:

  1. Consultation
A medical team member looks at your skin and health history. They ask about your goals and answer your questions.

  2. Personal Treatment Plan
They explain how many sessions you might need and how the treatment works.

  3. During the Injection
The shot is quick. Most people say it feels like a small pinch. The whole visit is usually short.

  4. After Care
You can go back to your normal day right away. Your provider may remind you to drink water and protect your skin from the sun.

Astra Medicare focuses on safety, comfort, and real results.

Alternatives to Glutathione Shots

If you want lighter or brighter skin, glutathione shots are not the only option. You may also consider:

  • Vitamin C serums

  • Retinol

  • Chemical peels

  • Microneedling

  • Laser skin treatments

The Story Behind the Valmont Facial

Valmont is a high-end Swiss skincare brand that uses advanced cellular cosmetic research in its products. For years, their scientists have been researching ways to protect and reconstruct skin tissue at the molecular level. All of their products are formulated in-house in the heart of Switzerland with pure glacial spring water and natural botanical extracts.

Valmont is unique because it incorporates DNA and RNA molecules in its skincare. These molecules are specifically engineered to enhance cell renewal and support the skin’s natural ability to repair itself. Valmont products work when used during a facial to help your skin feel firmer, more moisturized and radiant.

At Astra Medicare, our skincare experts are trained to perform this facial using high-performance products. We know how to use them effectively to address your skin’s specific concerns. This treatment is also tailored to your skin type.

The Science That Sets It Apart

The Valmont Facial stands out because of its scientific base. Unlike most facials that treat only the surface of your skin, this one targets what’s happening underneath.

  • Triple DNA and RNA Technology – These molecules support skin cell growth and help repair damage from pollution, stress, and aging.
  • Glacial Spring Water – Collected from the Swiss Alps, this mineral-rich water hydrates and refreshes the skin naturally.
  • Botanical Extracts – Ingredients like rose, chamomile, and thyme calm the skin and reduce redness.

This combination helps your skin heal from within. Over time, it becomes stronger, smoother, and more resistant to environmental stress.

Key Benefits of the Valmont Facial

  1. Deep Cellular Rejuvenation – The facial helps your skin produce more collagen, keeping it firm and youthful.
  2. Lasting Hydration – Moisture is locked deep into your skin’s layers for long-term softness.
  3. Brighter and More Even Tone – Ingredients lighten dark spots and refine texture for a glowing complexion.
  4. Natural Lifting Effect – Tightens and strengthens skin to reduce sagging and improve elasticity.
  5. Calming and Soothing – Ideal for sensitive skin, reducing redness and irritation while restoring balance.

Your Body’s Winter SOS: Why IV Therapy Might Be the Answer

10/19/2025

iv therapy female patient in a comfortable chair at Astra Medicare IV Lounge

Do you tend to feel tired and worn-down during winter?

Are you prone to catching colds and suffering drops in energy?

You’re not alone: countless people find the coldest months of the year difficult to deal with. But IV therapy (along with wellness shots) can improve your general health, mood, and appearance during winter.

How?

In this post, we’ll explain what these treatments involve and how they can help you stay well.

What are IV Therapy and Wellness Shots?

Intravenous (IV) therapy involves injecting helpful substances directly into your bloodstream through a needle. These fluids usually contain vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

Wellness shots are similar: they’re carefully formulated injectables featuring various healthy ingredients. They’re an ideal way to get a boost if you don’t have time for an IV therapy session.

How Can IV Therapy and Wellness Shots Benefit Your Body in Winter?

Reinforce Your Immune System

Your immune system has its work cut out in winter. Research shows that chillier weather impacts the nasal cavities’ ability to keep viruses at bay — which is a major reason for colds and flu being more prevalent in winter.

Other factors that contribute to a weaker immune system include reduced vitamin D levels (due to less sun exposure) and spending more time indoors with other people.

So, keeping your immune system strong is especially important in winter. And various types of IV therapy and wellness shots can help you do just that.

One good example is a vitamin C-boosting IV treatment. Vitamin C is a strong antioxidant that fights free radicals, which can harm cells and increase the risk of developing illnesses.

Vitamin C has other benefits, such as encouraging wound healing and promoting iron absorption. However, the body can’t produce it naturally. That’s why you need to either get it from food, supplements, IV therapy, wellness shots, or a combination of these.

Combat Fatigue and Stress

Winter can affect people in different ways. You may love the chilly days and cozy nights, drinking hot chocolate and wrapping up in comfy clothing.

On the other hand, you may find the shorter days, freezing temperatures, and bare trees difficult to handle. Around 2% to 3% of Canadians will develop seasonal affective disorder (SAD) in their lifetime. This condition can affect people of any age, though adults are more likely to experience it than children.

SAD symptoms include:

  • Feeling stressed and tense
  • Changes in appetite
  • Increased irritability
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Feeling tired constantly

However, SAD may not be the only reason why you feel stressed or fatigued — it could be higher energy bills, expectations for the holiday season, or any number of other issues.

Whatever the problem, IV therapy and wellness shots may help you feel more like yourself during winter. They can improve your mood, help you focus, and encourage your body to function as it should.

Take Your Energy Levels Higher

You might feel more tired and lethargic in winter for a few reasons:

  • Less sun exposure means your body produces less vitamin D, which affects how your muscles function and your overall mood.
  • Your melatonin (sleep hormone) levels can increase as days become shorter and nights set in sooner.
  • SAD could sap your energy and make you feel more tired than you would usually.

If you find energy levels dropping in colder weather, everything may be more difficult to deal with. Whether you’re trying to concentrate at work or cleaning up at home, you might feel as if you just can’t put yourself into the right gear.

However, different types of IV therapy and wellness shots can have a powerful effect on energy levels.

A vitamin B12 shot, for instance, will help reduce fatigue by encouraging the body to produce serotonin (a key neurotransmitter). This is crucial for regulating mood, decreasing anxiety levels, and promoting better overall wellbeing.

Treat Your Body to Extra Nutrients and Antioxidants

Your body needs many nutrients and antioxidants to function properly. It can produce most of these naturally, while others (such as vitamin C) only come from external sources.

Some of the most important nutrients and antioxidants for health include vitamin E, vitamin A, lycopene, and flavonoids. You may be able to increase your intake of these by eating certain foods, but they need to pass through the stomach first.

And that affects the body’s ability to absorb all the good stuff it needs.

Fortunately, injecting nutrients and antioxidants straight into the bloodstream allows them to bypass the digestive process. Your body will absorb more of them, and sooner.

A glutathione IV therapy treatment, for instance, offers a number of health benefits. Glutathione is a powerful antioxidant that can:

  • Brighten your skin for a clearer, healthier complexion.
  • Improve your immune function to prevent sickness.
  • Reduce oxidative stress that leads to cell damage.
  • Enhanced cognitive function to help you concentrate.
  • Promote better detoxification to remove harmful substances from the body.

As a result, glutathione IV therapy can do your body good at any time — but particularly in winter.

Toughen Your Skin Against Low Temperatures

Winter can be tough on your skin. As temperatures plummet and humidity decreases, skin can become dehydrated and dry. You may feel as if yours is itchier, flakier, and less resilient.

If your skin is naturally dry, you should take extra care of it in winter. Moisturizing your skin is vital to prevent it from drying out and cracking. But staying hydrated is paramount too.

Why? Because hydrated skin has better circulation, a plumper appearance, and more elasticity. Overall, this helps it withstand cold weather and look healthier.

Certain types of IV therapy and wellness shots are designed to hydrate skin from within. Once the nutrients have had time to get to work, your skin will look brighter and clearer.

Try IV Therapy and Wellness Shots in Ontario

During winter, IV therapy and wellness shots will do your body good. They can boost your immune response, energy levels, and overall mood.

The Medical Secret to Stopping Hair Loss at the Source

8/26/2025

Picture

It’s Hair Loss Awareness Month — the perfect time to talk about a problem that affects millions of Canadians but is rarely discussed openly. If you’ve noticed more hair in your brush, your shower drain, or on your pillow, you’re not alone.

At Astra Medicare, with clinics in Brampton, Toronto, and Kitchener, we see patients every week who feel frustrated and discouraged by thinning hair. Many have already tried shampoos, oils, and supplements with little to no success. The truth is, most of these solutions never address the real problem: the health of your hair follicles.

The good news? Modern medicine has uncovered a way to stop hair loss at the source — and even help you regrow your own natural hair.

Why Most Hair Loss Products Fail

You’ve seen the ads for “miracle” shampoos and topical treatments. They often sound promising, but they only work on the surface.

Here’s why most products fail:

  • They don’t penetrate the follicle, where the real problem lies.

  • They ignore blood circulation, which is essential for follicle health.

  • They delay proper treatment, allowing hair loss to progress.

Think of your scalp like a garden. You can water the soil all you want, but if the roots are damaged or starved of nutrients, nothing will grow. To truly restore hair, you have to revive the roots.

The Real Cause: Follicle Starvation

Each hair follicle is like a tiny factory. It needs a steady supply of oxygen, nutrients, and growth signals to function. But stress, aging, and hormonal changes reduce circulation to the scalp. Without blood flow, follicles shrink, hair strands weaken, and eventually, growth stops altogether.

Once a follicle dies, it cannot be revived. That’s why early action is critical. The sooner you treat thinning hair, the more hair you can save.

The Medical Secret: PRP for Hair

One of the most effective, scientifically-backed treatments available today is PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) therapy.

PRP uses your own blood’s healing properties to repair and reactivate dormant follicles:

  1. A small sample of your blood is drawn.

  2. It’s spun in a centrifuge to isolate platelet-rich plasma.

  3. That plasma — rich in natural growth factors — is injected into thinning areas of your scalp.

PRP improves blood flow, stimulates cell repair, and essentially “wakes up” struggling follicles so they can grow thicker, healthier hair again.

At Astra Medicare, our specialists are trained in advanced PRP techniques to maximize results, with treatments tailored to your unique hair loss pattern.

The Power of Vitamin Injections

PRP restores circulation, but your follicles also need nutritional support. That’s where vitamin injections come in.

Delivered directly into your bloodstream, vitamin injections provide your follicles with the nutrients they need to thrive:

  • Biotin (B7): Strengthens strands and prevents breakage.

  • Vitamin B12: Improves red blood cell production for better oxygen delivery.

  • Vitamin D: Helps restart follicle growth cycles.

  • Essential minerals (iron, zinc, amino acids): Keep hair strong and healthy.

This powerful combination — PRP + vitamin injections — addresses hair loss from both sides: circulation and nutrition.

Who Can Benefit?

You may be a great candidate for PRP and vitamin injections if:

  • You’re noticing early or moderate thinning at the crown, temples, or part line.

  • You’re shedding more than usual in the shower or when brushing.

  • You’ve tried topical products or supplements with little success.

  • You want real results without surgery or long downtime.

Our specialists at Astra Medicare can determine the right plan for your stage of hair loss during a consultation.

What Results Can You Expect?

Results vary, but most patients notice changes within months:

  • Month 1–2: Less shedding, healthier-feeling scalp.

  • Month 3–4: Stronger strands, new “baby hairs” in thinning spots.

  • Month 6+: Visible improvement in density and thickness.

With maintenance sessions, many patients enjoy long-term hair growth and a boost in overall scalp health.

Why Take Action This Month

Since it’s Hair Loss Awareness Month, there’s no better time to act. Every month you wait, follicles risk shutting down permanently.

By starting now, you give your hair the best chance at recovery — and you may even prevent the need for more invasive treatments later.

The Anti-Aging Secret Celebrities Don’t Talk About (But Totally Use)

6/29/2025

Celebrities use many tricks, techniques, and treatments to stay looking at their best. While we’ve all heard of Botox injections, facelifts, and fillers, other solutions are less well known. However, some celebrities have helped bring these secrets to wider attention.

One fantastic example is NAD IV therapy.

As fans of Keeping Up with the Kardashians know well, model Hailey Bieber told Kendall Jenner that she plans to “NAD for the rest of [her] life” and that she was “never going to age”.

Jennifer Aniston, star of the iconic sitcom Friends and numerous movies, told the Wall Street Journal that she considered NAD to be “the future”. But for every celebrity who openly discusses using NAD IV treatments, there may be many more who keep it behind closed doors.

But what is NAD IV therapy, and why do people in the public eye use it? In this guide to NAD treatments, we’ll explain how they work, the benefits they offer, potential side effects, and everything else you need to know.

What is NAD?

NAD (also known as NAD+) is an acronym for nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, a coenzyme found in every living cell. It’s crucial for maintaining a cell’s health, and it plays a large part in numerous organic processes (such as DNA repair, cellular rejuvenation, and translating energy from foods into essential functions).

The human body naturally produces NAD, but it does so less often with age. This is due to various factors, including oxidative stress, and it can leave DNA more vulnerable to damage.

However, you can bring your NAD levels up through supplements and treatments — including NAD IV therapy.

What is NAD IV Therapy?

As with other IV treatments, NAD IV therapy involves feeding a precisely portioned stream of fluid into your body intravenously. This is a more effective option than taking NAD supplements orally: those must pass through your digestive system, which can reduce the amount of NAD that is absorbed by the body.

Injecting NAD into your bloodstream creates faster, stronger absorption. If you have tried oral supplements without noticeable results, IV therapy can make a real difference.

What are the Top NAD IV Therapy Benefits?

NAD IV treatments offer the following benefits:

Boost Cellular Health and Activity

NAD is vital for the health of cells and helps them perform key tasks, such as healing wounds. By increasing your NAD levels with an IV therapy session, you can enhance the health of cells and provide them with the energy they need to carry out their duties.

Reduce the Signs of Aging

One of the major reasons why NAD IV therapy has become a go-to treatment for celebrities is its ability to slow the aging process. While all the NAD in the world can’t prevent you from growing older, it can help you enjoy a more youthful appearance and reduce common signs of aging.

Increase Your Metabolism

A fast metabolism converts food into energy and helps you maintain a healthy weight. However, your metabolism naturally slows down as you age, which can lead to unintended weight gain, dry skin, fatigue, and other issues.

As NAD IV treatments give your metabolism a boost, it may help your body turn food into energy, use more calories, and increase your energy levels overall. This can be especially beneficial if you often feel tired from an intense work schedule or frequent physical activity.

Encourage Better Concentration and Mood

If you find your attention wandering as you get older, or you’re feeling lower than before, NAD IV therapy could be a solution.

NAD IV treatments promote cell repair throughout the body, including the brain. This can contribute to stronger concentration and improve your mood overall. It may not transform you into a super-genius, but it may help you focus on tasks at work and home a little better.

Enhance Energy Levels

You may feel more tired and lethargic as you grow older. Even if you try to stay active, it’s natural for your energy levels to drop as your body gradually changes. This is typically caused by a decrease in muscle mass and cells, as well as certain conditions (e.g. anemia).

A lack of energy can interfere with everyday responsibilities and hobbies, making it more difficult to stay sociable and have fun. However, a NAD IV therapy session could boost your energy levels and combat fatigue.

Decrease Inflammation

Undergoing a series of NAD IV treatments may bring relief from inflammation. NAD helps reduce inflammation by activating certain proteins (sirtuins) and regulating immune responses.

Inflammation can lead to various health issues, such as digestive problems, pain, and swelling. Common causes include prolonged and intense stress, being heavily overweight, and poor nutrition.

NAD IV Therapy: Possible Side Effects

NAD IV treatments can trigger side effects in some cases. These include:

  • Bruising around the injection site
  • Headaches
  • Nausea
  • Redness/flushing
  • Dizziness

Any side effects that occur are typically only temporary. Your treatment provider will be able to discuss these with you before your IV therapy begins.

What Other IV Therapies are Available?

Alongside NAD IV treatments, various other IV therapies are available. These include:

  • Glutathione IV therapy — designed to brighten skin, boost antioxidants, encourage detoxification, enhance immune function, and support cellular health
  • Vitamin C IV therapy — helps strengthen the immune system, bring toxicity levels down, promote wound healing, and stimulate collagen production for stronger skin
  • Vitamin cocktails — choose from several formulations for everything from boosting immune function to burning fat

I Tried Glutathione Therapy and By Day 7 My Face Looked Unreal

Intravenous (IV) treatments have become more mainstream in recent years, offering a simple yet powerful way to deliver healthy substances directly into the patient’s system. One of the various treatments available is glutathione therapy, which can be used to brighten the skin and provides a variety of other benefits.

Recently, one of our regular visitors tried glutathione therapy for the first time and was amazed by the results. She was so delighted that she sent us a message thanking our team for helping her achieve a brighter, healthier look. Here’s just a snippet:

“I’d read about glutathione therapy, but felt a little skeptical. Could it really make my skin look clearer, brighter, and lighter overall? I decided to give it a try, and I’m so glad I did! The difference your glutathione IV therapy has made is remarkable — by the seventh day after my visit, my face looked unreal.”

We’re always thrilled to receive exciting feedback like this from our patients, and it inspired us to raise awareness of glutathione therapy’s benefits. In this post, we’ll explore this treatment in detail to help you understand how it works and why it could be the right choice for you.

What is Glutathione Therapy?

Glutathione is a naturally occurring antioxidant that plays an important role in fighting oxidative stress, detoxifying major organs, and lightening the skin to create a clearer complexion.

However, your glutathione levels may not always be at the optimal level for a number of reasons. One is age: glutathione production typically decreases as the human body grows older. But if you’re feeling unusually stressed or your diet is generally unhealthy, that could cause your glutathione levels to drop too.

Fortunately, you can give your body a much-needed boost with glutathione therapy.

During this straightforward treatment, glutathione is delivered directly into your bloodstream through an intravenous injection. The glutathione administered is measured and fed into the bloodstream carefully for the best results.

What Benefits Does Glutathione Therapy Offer?

Glutathione IV treatments offer a wide range of benefits:

Maximized Glutathione Absorption

The most immediate benefit of glutathione IV therapy is that it feeds the antioxidant into your system directly. That’s much more efficient and effective than taking glutathione as an oral supplement.

Capsules, for example, must pass through the digestive system. That can reduce the absorption rate significantly, preventing you from receiving as much of the glutathione’s benefits as you might expect.

As IV therapy allows the glutathione to bypass the digestive system entirely, the absorption rate is maximized to create more immediate and powerful results. If you’ve tried an oral glutathione supplement and found the outcome uninspiring, it’s definitely worth trying the IV route instead.

Skin Brightening for a More Radiant Complexion

If you’re frustrated by complexion issues, such as hyperpigmentation, liver spots, or melasma, glutathione therapy could make a difference.

How? It inhibits melanin production to leave skin lighter, brighter, and clearer. Melanin is the pigment that determines the colour of your skin, hair, and other aspects of your appearance.

In some cases, people may produce more melanin than they need and experience a noticeable change in their skin. For example, excessive melanin levels can lead to hyperpigmentation — dark patches that may appear on different areas of the body, including the face.

This melanin overproduction may be the result of:

  • Hormonal fluctuations: Changes in your hormone levels could be to blame for hyperpigmentation, whether due to pregnancy, illness, or any number of other factors.
  • Prolonged sun exposure: Spending long periods in direct sunlight may trigger hyperpigmentation, as it promotes increased production of melanin (which is why we tan).
  • Medications: Certain medications, such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, may cause hyperpigmentation.

As glutathione inhibits melanin production, it has the power to reduce your melanin levels and address various issues that may affect your skin. It’s an effective treatment for hyperpigmentation, and can visibly brighten the skin to create a more even complexion.

Powerful Detoxification

While glutathione is highly recommended for skin brightening, it also works hard below the surface to help you stay healthy through detoxification.

How? Glutathione supports the function of multiple internal organs, including the kidneys, intestines, liver, and the gastrointestinal tract. These play a critical role in detoxifying the body and removing potentially harmful elements.

With glutathione IV therapy, you can provide your system with the support it needs to perform thorough detoxification and maintain proper function.

Fight Oxidative Stress

As a naturally occurring antioxidant, glutathione can fight oxidative stress: an internal issue that occurs when you have more free radicals than your body can destroy effectively. Free radicals may harm cells and potentially contribute to the development of various health conditions, such as diabetes.

However, increasing glutathione levels may help fuel the body’s fight against oxidative stress.

Stronger Immune Function

Maintaining a resilient immune system is vital to stay healthy and fight off harmful bacteria, whether protecting you from the common cold or something worse.

Glutathione therapy can promote a stronger immune system by mitigating oxidative stress, providing your body with the help it needs to maintain good health. This may be beneficial for people affected by various autoimmune conditions.

Get Higher Energy Levels

A 2024 survey found that around half of Canadians (49%) working full-time felt fatigued and stressed. If you find yourself in a similar situation, you may feel as if you lack the energy to work at your best and take care of your other responsibilities.

While addressing the root cause of your fatigue is important, you may want to improve your energy levels as best you can to fend off persistent tiredness. Most of our patients claim that they feel revitalized and energized after our glutathione therapy. This may be due to glutathione’s positive impact on metabolism and cellular health.
