Frequently asked questionsWhat is Physiotherapy?Physiotherapy (or physical therapy) is the treatment and prevention of physical injury, and movement issues. Physiotherapists assist their patients in restoring, maintaining, and maximizing their strength, movement and overall well-being. Do I Need to be referred by a doctor to get physiotherapy? No, patients do not need to be referred in order to recieve physiotherapy. However, some insurance companies do require a doctor's referral. Please check with your provider before making an appointment. Why Should i See a Physiotherapist? There's a wide range of reasons as to why you may need to see a physiotherapist. Some of those include: Injuries such as sprains, that require immediate care for swelling, tenderness and pain; muscle rehabilitation post injury, fractures or surgery; neurological problems such as cerebral palsy, or head injury; during and after pregnancy; post motor vehicle accident; post workplace accident, etc. How do Physiotherapists assess? Our physiotherapists will begin by analyzing your history, and current situation. They will try to get a good understanding of what the problem is, how the problem started, how the problem is and the problem is affecting your daily functions. They will preform a series of physical examinations that will test your flexibility, and range of motion. They will then assess their findings, and use clinical reasoning in order to establish a diagnosis and treatment plan. How will i be treated? Our physiotherapists preform a variety of treatments, and will select the ones for you based on your situation. Some of those treatments include: Personalized exercise programs; massages; change in environment/removal of barriers to function; stretching exercises; Joint mobilization and manipulation; acupuncture; supportive taping; application of support braces, and other support & protective devices and equipment; and more.
